Horsham’s economy is largely driven by agriculture, particularly dry land broadacre farming and livestock grazing, and the nationally-acclaimed agricultural research centre, the Grains Innovation Park, is based in Horsham.

While farming is a significant contributor towards the city’s economy, health care and social assistance remains as Horsham’s largest employment sector.

A large sector of the community is also employed within the following areas: Industry, Commercial business, Food manufacturing, Construction, Public sector, Education, Tourism and Retail.

Horsham is strategically located at the junction of the Western, Wimmera and Henty Highways. The Melbourne-Adelaide railway line, which passes through Horsham and has the Wimmera Intermodal Freight Hub at Dooen.
