Natural wonders, annual competitions and scenic rail trails – Stawell is the Grampians region’s hub of sport and recreation.

Held in Easter each year, the town is home to the Stawell Gift foot race which has been run on Easter Monday since 1878, attracting bigger names and bigger crowds each time.

Stawell is also surrounded by several of the region’s parks and trails including the Grampians Rail Trail, Cato Park, Stawell Ironbarks Forest, and Black Range State Park, making it the perfect place for year-round recreation.

Food and Wine

Nestled in the heart of the Great Western Wine Region, Stawell acts as home base for the Grampians Wine Tours, with the region’s best cellar doors and stunning historic vineyards only a stone’s throw away.

Arts and Culture

Stawell prides itself on its rich history and goldrush architecture.

The town’s heritage buildings are set against the backdrop of the Grampians National Park, creating an arts and cultural experience that combines natural wonders with material beauty.

Stawell is a township animated by a strong sense of community and a spirit of friendliness, creating a thriving home town that is welcoming and focused on looking after one’s own.

Stawell is a 2 hour and 40 minute drive down the Western Highway from Melbourne and only a 1.5 hour drive from Ballarat. With its own train station, the town has direct trips from major Victorian cities as well as its own public transport network.

Considered home to some of the top rural health services in the state, Stawell features its own first-class hospital and medical centre, providing care for public and private patients as well as a range of integrated facilities for aged and handicapped residents.

As one of the region’s most commercial towns, Stawell has access to major supermarkets as well as a diversity of shops and markets boasting all the necessities and luxuries required for comfortable living.
